Collect a ReSharper memory snapshot in Visual Studio

Question

How do I collect a ReSharper memory snapshot in Visual Studio and send it to JetBrains?

Answer

  1. In Visual Studio, select ReSharper | Help | Profile Visual Studio. In Visual Studio 2019 and later, the ReSharper menu can be under Extensions.
  2. In Problem category, select Performance problem.
  3. Next to Attachments, click the + icon and select the Memory snapshot. On the first run, ReSharper downloads the self-profiling tool, which can take some time.
  4. Wait while ReSharper shows Getting memory snapshot. This takes about one minute. When it finishes, the snapshot file appears under Attachments.
  5. Enter a Subject and a Description of the memory problem.
  6. Click Submit.

If the upload fails:

  1. Right-click the snapshot under Attachments and select Open File Location.
  2. Upload the file to JetBrains Upload Service, or share it through a cloud storage service.

If Visual Studio runs out of memory and crashes before the snapshot is submitted, collect the snapshot with standalone dotMemory.
