Resharper++ is slowing down VS2022

Hello,

I'm using Resharper++ for quite a while now (4 or 5 years), with multiple licenses and since VS2022 came outm I was very happy with the performance. Never thought, that this would change, but for quite a while now, Visual Studio is very laggy after a short period. When restarting it works quite ok, but after a while the performance significantly drops. Just pressing “Enter”, and thus inserting new lines, freezes the UI for several seconds. Navigating between open files now takes several seconds, too. Doing anything with the text editor is like watching a dia-show.

The whole situation made me switch to CLion, as my personal student license just expired. Unfortunately I also have a business license from my company, which they are not willing to change to CLion. In fact, today I had to remove resharper++ completely from Visual Studio for work.

I'm working on many kinds of project. Some are CMake folder Projects, some are Visual Studio Solutions. Some are huge, some are rather small. Some use Conan in the background, some are standalone. So, I do not see a particular pattern, what could cause this performance regression. I tried to follow any official advice and even tested it on three different machines, without any noticable difference. After a short duration, they all become quite unusable.

Resharper++ was very helpful to me, but in this state I just makes my daily work more tedious.

What can I do? Is there an option to install a previous release? Like from half a year ago? I do not know whether a resharper or VS update is the root cause here.

Hello,

Please help us investigate the slowdown.

After you feel like R# is slow, please use the built-in profiler to collect a timeline trace that captures the lags (https://resharper-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/210652849-Collect-Timeline-performance-snapshot-in-Visual-Studio). If possible, please also collect and send us a memory snapshot (https://resharper-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000265844-Collect-memory-snapshot-in-Visual-Studio). You can upload files to https://uploads.jetbrains.com/.

Thanks!

Hello, thanks for your reply. As I said, I completely removed resharper, but today I had some time to give it a go.
I also re-installed VS completely, because I had some serious troubles with the built-in Intellisense, which was due to some SFINAE code from a dependency. I sligthly adjusted that code and Intellisense immediately started working again. So I had hopes, that this could also fix the issue with resharper and thus I installed it again. The good news is, it seem to run much smoother than before. The bad news is, that after a (longer) while it started lagging again. I've uploaded a profiling report as you suggested. Hopefully you can find it.

Greetings

Hi,

Sorry, I think I need the upload id to access the files that is shown after the upload is finished. Could you please reupload and share this id with us?

Thanks!

I think it is RSRP-499318

Thanks! There are indeed several hangs on the snapshot, but all of them seem to be caused by VS IntelliSense.

If you're not working on a CMake solution, it should be possible to disable IntelliSense. When you have some time, please try changing this setting and give R# another try.

Hello again,

sorry for the long delay, but it took me a while getting back to a project. Today I re-enabled resharper for a .sln project and it's currently nearly unusable. The snapshot is RSRP-499496.
