[238] Startup Time - Any Improvements Coming?

Mike,

With 238 (and previous builds) I am experiencing VS 2005 startup times
in the 30-35 second range. Without R#, VS will cold start on my
machine in 3 seconds. Are there any planned improvements for startup
or is 30-35 seconds what we can expect for RTM?

I do not think there will be significant improvements in start-up time...
Do you 35 seconds include background portion of R# startup (yellow transparent
window in bottom-right corner)?

Hello Mike,

actually this is indeed a problem and we definitely plan to reduce startup
time of VS.
However, I'm afraid we will have to defer this fix until the first bugfix
update for ReSharper 2.0.

I experience this long startup time too. My dev machine is P4 2.8GHz with
2.5GB RAM.

The IDE appears really quickly as expected but then freeze for about 30
seconds at least while the status bar displays "Processing command bar 'X'",
where X looks like the name of the toolbars and tool windows.

I have a P4, 3.2Ghz, 1GB RAM.

I don't see the same thing that Alex sees. On my machine I see the Visual Studio splash screen for about 30-35 seconds, and then I see the IDE. I don't see the statusbar text he describes after the IDE appears.

Looking forward to this fix post release as this gets pretty annoying if you have to do a lot of restarts, etc...

I just installed 239 on my machine and here is what I am seeing now.

Start VS - 0 seconds
VS IDE appears - @ 2nd second (nice improvement!)
VS IDE with Hourglass; VS is unusable - up to 32nd second
CommandBar commands appear in status bar; hourglass; VS is unusable - 33rd - 50th second
VS is usable - no solution loaded - 51st second

My machine is P4, 3.2GHz, 1 GB RAM; Hard drives are defraged everynight with Diskkeeper

Follow-up to my post above.

After quitting and restarting VS, VS is usable within 15 seconds without solution loaded (nice work!). Delay above appears to be a "first run" issue.
