R# Uninstaller Takes a Long Time
R
uninstaller seems to uninstall help 2.0 R# collection from MSDN Documentation 2005 explorer. However, it also causes the reindex of the whole library I have. It tooks more than 10 minutes to uninstall in my case. Please investigate.

Hello Nat,
yes, you'right - the uninstaller is very slow because of running 'devenv
/setup' and un-integrating help, both these actions
take very long time. However, it seems that there is no easy solution to
this problem. Concerning re-indexing - this is how
MSDN help works, we just use merge modules provided by Microsoft as a part
of VSIP (Visual Studio Integration Program) SDK.
I agree that we need to speed up installer, but this is not the highest priority
issue and it will be deferred until (optimistically)
the bugfix update.

Dmitry,
I understand but it's a bit troublesome during EAP since the merge will happen twice. One at installation and another one at uninstallation point. When I want to update to a new version, I don't want to spend two time merging MSDN library like that. :(
Hopefully, in the later release, you will have a way that we can cleanly update R# without uninstalling it first.

Hello Nat,
i don't think that there is any way to avoid the merge. When you don't do the merge during installation / deinstallation, Visual
Studio will do it on the first start after installation / deinstallation (MessageBox "Help is updated to reflecting changes, Please
wait"). The fact is, that MS-Help has to refresh it's index when the help collection change.
Sometimes i am annoyed about the setup time too, but then i think about that i am participating on an Early Access Program. If R#
2.0 is released you will not install it frequently any more, so the setup time is not relevant. 10 Minutes are just enough time to
smoke a cigarette or drink a cup of coffee. So enjoy your break while installing R# :)

Klaus
How about making the installation of ReSharper Help files optional (but selected by default)? I admit that I have never used ReSharper's online help before, so I won't miss it.

Thomas

Hello Thomas,
please file a request for it, we'll consider it for future releases.

Hello Thomas,
Great idea since I barely use the help anyway. :)
