[326] ReSharper Menu on startup

Hi,

I suspect that this is a config error on my machine, but every time I
start visual studio I see the following message on the status bar:

ReSharper: Menu is not found or Corrupt. Doing full menu initialisation.

Everything works to work fine after this, it just slows down Visual
Studios startup. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Hello Barry,

in fact this caption should only appear the first time you run ReSharper.
Could you please try to close all instances of VS, run VS and wait for
ReSharper to initialize completely, then close the VS and check that on the
next startup of VS the caption does not appear and initialization
of ReSharper is fast? Thanks.

I see this item on the status every time I start VS - either 2003 or 2005. Initialization of Resharper always takes some time.

I've tried that and I still get the same behaviour from ReSharper. It
does this every time I load VS.NET.

Hello David,

this discussion in this thread only applies to ReSharper version 2.5. VS
2003 is not supported in this version.

I've tried that and I still get the same behaviour from ReSharper. It
does this every time I load VS.NET.

Hello Barry,

I've checked the log. Most likely the problem is that ReSharper cannot access
the menu item 'ReSharper|Options', so it decides
that something is wrong with its menu and it is necessary to re-create it.
Could you please try to conduct the following experiment:

1) Disable ReSharper so that it is not loaded on VS startup via the Add-In
Manager ('Startup' checkbox; you may also need to set registry
value HKLM(HKCU)\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\AddIns\ReSharperAddIn25[LoadBehavior]
to zero).
2) Launch the VS
3) Check if the ReSharper menu is present and the 'Options' item is there.
All menu items except for sub-menus should be disabled - this is OK.

Please post here the result of the experiment. Thanks in advance.

VS does indeed start up and shutdown without any exceptions or errors.

As for extra plugins, currently, I have the following:

RemObjects Chrome (Object Pascal)
ModelMaker Tools Code explorer
WIX
Core Labs MySQL Developer Tools (demo)
LINQ Preview (But not the extended C# Compiler)
Orcas Tech Preview
Windows for WorkFlow extensions
(I'm going to uninstall these last two)

I've also had installed, but recently removed:

Zonnon Compiler

Hi Dmitry

I've installed and Run Resharper on another machine here, with the same
result. Resharper recreated its menu each time VS was run. I've attached
the log file from this other machine. It also had installed the CoreLabs
mySQL tools and VS.PHP.

unfortunately it is now long holidays in Russia, and I couldn't pay attention
to this issue. I've checked the log file submitted by Madhon,
but still can't understand why ReSharper menu doesn't persist in VS. One
more thing we should try is running VS + ReSharper with log
(devenv.exe /Log "C:\vslog.txt") - please post log here as well, may be there
will be some cues there.

sorry, I was not completely clear - I meant the log of an entire session
- startup + shutdown. Perhaps there will be
some useful information there pertaining to the shutdown phase.

Extra bit of info ive found after searching for this error is that disabling
the corelabs mysql addin allows the prf to be saved, and resharper dosnt do
a full menu initialisation anymore after that. Looks like its a corelabs
problem rarther than resharper in the end.

If you want to disabled the corelabs mysql addin to check if it fixes it on
yours you need to change

LoadBehavior value to 0 under the following registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\AddIns\CoreLab.MySql.Addin.MySqlAddin.8

Nice one, Madhon, that did the trick. The only difference for me was the
registry location.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\AddIns\CoreLab.MySql.Addin.MySqlAddin.8

addin is broken.
