Hello Amir,
although I believe this feature is rather easy to implement, this behavior
is non-standard and not so many people demand it.
So it should certainly be supplemented by an option to disable this feature.
I think we should better concentrate on more popular and less doubtful features,
which are still not implemented,
and on bugs, which we still have in plenty, unfortunately.
It should be pretty easy to write a plug-in for ReSharper containing this
and other similar features. It would be also a good
test if we expose enough functionality to control the VS code editor. So
such an effort is warmly welcome :)

Hmm, I've re-read the request and may be I was overly optimistic - it would
require tracking clicks on editor tabs,
something we're not doing currently, because it is not needed for any other
purpose. But still, this doesn't mean that
the feature is easier to implement in the core ReSharper than in a plug-in.

The definition of "standard" depends on what you consider the "standard" to
be. As was said in the original request, it is pretty standard behavior
when you consider the multi-tabbed browsers. And once you get used to it it
is very addictive - i.e., I keep doubleclicking on tabs in MDIs trying to
close them. There are two major operations that we do on tabs - on is to
select them - the single click, the other is to close them. Closing is a
multiple-mouse action right now. It would be very useful to have it assigned
to a simple (no ctrl/shirt/alt/win) mouse action.
This is something that I think should be voted on... You'd be surprised at
how many people would like to see it. This, and the ability to right mouse
doubleclick and get the Reformat This... submenu...

I'm using Firefox and it doesn't seem to have this feature. At least, it
doesn't work for me. And Firefox is now the most popular multi-tabbed browser.

In Firefox it is middle-click on the tap to close it.

Hello Amir,
first, I've just discovered that double-clicking the mouse wheel already
works as you want in VS 2005 (but not
in VS 2003). I'm not using this feature because I don't close tabs so often
that I need a special mouse shortcut for it.
Also, double-clicking the mouse wheel (as it works in FireFox and VS 2005)
doesn't look a natural user action for me. May be
I simply have a bad mouse, may be it's just a matter of habit.
But back to the topic of this thread, if even in FireFox there is a plugin
that implements this cool feature, nothing prevents
our users from writing such a plugin for ReSharper :)
