How to use multiple dictionaries for spell-checking

I have downloaded the dictionary (and related files) for german spellchecking. if i turn off the english dict and turn on the german dict, stuff gets spellchecked for german. (i.e.: German words are OK, english words get curly lines.). When i turn off the german dict and turn on the english one, it's vice versa.

However, most of my code is in english, while lots of static strings and comments are in german. i would thus like to use both the english and the german spellchecking. However, if i turn on both dicts, allmost every german word is complained about.

Is it not possible to use more than one dict at the same time?

Hello Thomas,
thank you for contacting us.
Unfortunately, there is an issue with multiple dictionaries, We have tickets about it in YouTrack: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/RSRP-473488/ReSperller.-En-AU-dictionary-doesnt-work, https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/RSRP-481785/English-dictionary-stops-working-when-Ukrainian-is-enabled.
You are welcome to comment on it and vote.
Thank you!

This is a big pain in multi-national teams. Even if everyone speaks English, there are spelling variants across dialects (e.g., US/UK). Both variants are equally valid, but any given team member is going to get “spelling corrections”, regardless of their locale or dictionary settings.

Same problem in Germany, trying to use English and German simultaneously.

To be precise.. The “Dictionaries” under “Grammar and Spelling” → “Spelling” do work.
“Analyze grammar and spelling” (under “Grammar and Spelling” → “General”) does only work for English. Trying to add German there, doesn't work. Neither by just adding (with auto-downloader), nor by “installing manually”.

Hello Diskjunky, Johannes Kortas

I'm sorry for the delay.

This thread relates to quite old issues with grammar checking. Since then, we have been changed how our grammatical checker works.

The issue you've mentioned is most likely related to a known bug: RSRP-502608 Non-English user dictionary: Stops working after adding a word. It has been fixed already. The fix is included in the next ReSharper 2026.1 EAP 7 (available next week).

If the issue is still there, please let me know and bring some more details about your setup. Thanks!
