Refactor menu not available (greyed out)

Completed

I've been using the Refactor menu for months but suddenly it is not available anymore. Any hints?

Hello Evidal,

Thank you for contacting us.
Refactoring is context-dependent.
1. Please send a full screenshot of the place where you are trying to apply the refactoring and where the cursor is at that moment.
2. Also, please check the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+R. Is it works for refactoring or not?
3. Do all other options work or is it just only refactoring option disabled? For example, do you see a ReSharper marker bar for a code file?

Please submit all this information in a request here https://resharper-support.jetbrains.com/ for further investigation.
Thank you.

1. Refactor is disabled in every scenario right now. I've just created a template project with wrong indentation. All code is selected with Ctrl+A. In this case, the Refactor menu was always available, now it's not.

2. The shortcut Ctrl+Shift+R is not working anymore. Before it was always bringing the Refactoring menu too.

3. It is just the Refactoring option what is disabled, the rest of the options (or at least the ones I use) are ok. Marker bar is showing up too.

I am going to submit everything in a request. Thanks for your reply.

Same issue is happening to me since last week with:

Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2022 (64-bit) - Current
Version 17.2.2

and

JetBrains ReSharper 2021.3.2 Build 213.0.20211221.144419 built on 2021-12-21
dotCover 2021.3.20211222.101617
dotTrace 2021.3.20211222.101551

ReSharper 2021.3.20211222.101340
dotMemory 2021.3.20211222.101430

When I try to do a simple rename using Ctrl+R+R (Visual Studio shortcuts) I see little message saying Ctrl+R+R is bound to Resharper which is not available. I have tried all the usual trick s of clearing Resharper cache (including manaually delting folders in %localappdata%\jetbrains and my entire .vs folder).

Something is disabling Resharper.

Please could you run Visual Studio with the following command line:

devenv /ReSharper.LogFile C:\log\resharper_log.txt /ReSharper.LogLevel Verbose

After that reproduce the issue and send me the corresponding resharper_log.txt file via our support system https://resharper-support.jetbrains.com/ for further investigation.

Thank you.

I am experiencing the same issue. Are there any updates for this thread?

Hi Jswart,

what version of ReSharper are you using? Please try to install the latest one: https://www.jetbrains.com/resharper/download/ and check the result.

Does it happen for some specific solution only? Does it happen in a newly created console application, Main method?

Thank you!

Upgrading the Resharper version fixed the issue for me.

Upgrading the Resharper version fixed the issue for me, too. Thank you!

Is there any information that can be shared publicly on what is leading to this issue? I had it happen a couple of months ago and I am not sure which step fixed it. It was either reinstalling ReSharper from scratch, or updating the version of VS 2022 I was using.

This started happening AGAIN last week.  I have updated the version of ReSharper AND Visual Studio, but to no avail.

Refactor menu is greyed out for everything. Alt+Enter just makes a "dong" sound (as in, not mapped to anything). Resetting mappings did not fix, deleting cache did not fix, and nothing else that I have read online has helped.

Ctrl+. works, for the Visual Studio refactoring - but I want my Alt+Enter ReSharper refactoring back...

Hello Jgreywolf,

Could you please specify if the issue is also reproduced in a newly created solution?

Please start VS with the following command: "devenv.exe /ReSharper.LogFile C:\log\resharper_log.txt /ReSharper.LogLevel Verbose", reproduce the issue and send us resharper_log.txt. You can share it via our upload service.

Thank you.

This morning I decided to uninstall and reinstall, and now everything is working again.

I was seeing this issue in every solution that I opened, though I hadnt checked with a new solution.

I will make sure to remember to do that next time. I only say "next time" because this is the second time this has happened in the last year.

Hello Jgreywolf,

Please collect a log the next time issue reoccurs and send it to us.

Thank you.

This issue has been happening for me intermittently since downloading VS 2022 preview a week ago. I have updated resharper to the latest.

Hello,
thank you for contacting us.
Does this issue happen in all solutions or only in specific one?
Thank you!

Hello,
I've only seen it happen in one solution, but it's the solution I would spend most of my time on.

Thanks!

Thanks Olga, I'll try this next time the issue happens and keep you updated!

Hello Ievgen Pavlenko,

Could you please provide a screenshot demonstrating the issue? The whole VS window illustrating both code and refactor menu will be helpful.

Thank you.

Hello Angelina Elycheva

Thank you for your response, the problem was related to the ReSharper Build problem; when I Turned it off, ReSharper began working correctly.

Thank you for the reply, Ievgen.

Could you please elaborate on ReSharper Build problem? How did you end up with ReSharper Build being the culprit? Does the problem return if you enable ReSharper Build?

Thank you.
