Memory Usage

It keep being an issue, today Resharper collapsed again after a major refactoring and a get latest version.

Highlighting is permanently disabeld, so that can't be the issue. I'm using Find Usages a lot and did a couple of debug runs to make sure everything was still in working order.

A couple of issues have been created, 974* all OutOfMemoryExceptions.

Hope you can do something to fix this soon. It's becoming more and more depressing...

Hmmm today VS crashed on me again, btu I was too lazy to wait for it to close, so I task-killed it. I found a Resharper tempfile that was more than 600 Mb in size. I copied it to another drive (with a bit more space available) and I have it available (though I have no clue how to get a 600 MB file through our firewall ;) )

Hi Jesse,

what tempfile you're referring to? Is it a ReSharper log?
I've tried to download the attached *.zip but after unpacking it appeared to be a kind of binary file.

Thanks,
Dmitry

Hi Jesse,

next time it happens please specify what do you see in the 'VM Size' and 'Memory Usage' column of the Task Manager for the devenv.exe process. Also please notice what memory usage is reported in the status bar. And one more thing - how long does it take for your VS to achieve such a memory usage which makes it unusable?

Thanks in advance,
Dmitry

Memsize = 360 MB
VM = 650 MB
Status bar = between 50~200 MB

The time it takes is different all the time, but with a little effort it can be done in under two hours of heavy refactoring/find uasages, debug runs.

The files in question are found in the %currentuser%\local settings\temp I have no clue what they mean.

There's a 7zip archive withing the two zip files. 7zip made it considerably smaller, but just not small enough to fit in your max file size, so I had to split it afterwards.

The 7zip file contains a couple of temp files with the name resharper in them, which I found in the temp directory of my system.

Another simple way to get large temp files seems to be keeping VS running for more than 24 hours... A new file has started to grow in my temp folder, 20 hours after startup (with only simple coding work and a night sleep (pc's aren't allowed to be switched off at the office)) it is now 170Mb and slowly growing.

This is better than havind a bowl of frogeggs ;) I can actually see it grow over time!

Having VS open (and that's it, no coding going on, was reading email) the file has grown anothe 20Mb in 20 minutes.

These are definitely logfiles generated by Resharper. BTW, most lines of
these files look lke:

9:43:43 PM: Thread:3280: Released write lock
9:43:43 PM: Thread:3280: Acquired write lock

I have tens of acquire/release pairs per second. Is it safe to do so without
degrading performance...?

And one more thing. Sometimes I see lines like
9:57:03 PM: Thread:3280: Could not find project <project-name>

Is it OK...?
