Am I the only one having issues?

I recently downloaded Reshaper 4.5 and started using it thinking that all the peformance issues 4.0 had, would have got addressed. But I was dead wrong. We have been using resharper (again) over last 30 days and have seen so many issues. The biggest one being slowness which in turn is impacting my team's productivity. The next one being frequent exceptions being thrown and every time I "mute an exception", my system gets more slower.

I am not sure if I am the only one seeing/having these issues. But within my organization, I have heard multiple folks having similar issues.

Hello Ravi,

I think you are not alone. Sometimes we receive feedback with such problems. But we can't catch it without reproducing. It will be fantastic if you would give us some example or solution and ideas of how to reproduce this problem. Or may be you could get profiler snapshots (of slowness) by yourself and send us for investigation. Profiler link is http://www.jetbrains.com/profiler/download/index.html.

Anyway thanks for your feedback!

We have a developer using a very large website (lots of ASP.NET code, as
well as tons of image files etc... note, it's not a web project, but a
single monolithic and huge website), and he's experiencing very slow
performance when the solution is loaded. The solution loads, and the moment
resharper starts parsing files, Visual Studio 2008 becomes non-responsive,
and he's basically locked out for over five minutes. That's not acceptable.

The weird thing is that I had him change the location of his resharper cache
files to the system TEMP folder, and to delete all the "ReSharper" folders
and files intermixed in his solution files... and the problem got
significantly better (down to a minute, which he could deal with).
Unfortuantely, something happened, and the time has gone right back to over
five minutes again.

It's really painful.

Hi,

Seems something wrong with ReSharper caches. On solution opening the message 'Parsing source files' can appear in two cases:

1. This is the first time you open this solution (or you have deleted caches). ReSharper should build the caches, and it can take some time.
2. You have some external changes like update from version control system. In this case ReSharper should rebuild caches only for changed files.

Please, go to ReSharper -> Options -> General and click 'Clear Caches' button. After this close your solution and open it again. It can take some time to build new caches for the solution. Now close and open solution once more. If you see 'Parsing source files' again, and opening time is the same - smth wrong.

What time does it take to open solution with and without caches?

Well, finally after trying out many things, what worked for me was increasing the memory of my desktop from 2GB to 3GB. Another practice I have been following is close the solution at the end of the day and open it again the next morning. This seem to have reduced the issues I have been facing. One of jet brains developers suggested me to turn off code analysis, but I do not want to do that as I see a huge value addition in using it.

That said, I am now able to have Resharper do what it was originally intended to.
