Reshaper 5 hangs while loading caches :(
Reshaper 5 hangs while loading caches in VS 2008. I was using 4.5 and I have installed the new one and that is not working when I try to analyse whole solution. It seems like working on loading the cache. I tried every thing. I removed cache files. removed and reinstalled reshaper 5. Nothing helps. When I reinstall 4.5 it works correctly but I can't use 5.
Any idea?

Please could you attach debugger and send us the stacktraces of all threads with managed frames?
Thank you in advance.
I dont know what are you talking about. There is no runtime and no stack trace. Which process do I need to attach to ? devenv.exe ??
I am sending you my screen shot. I hope that will help.

Yes, please run one more VisualStudio, then attach to devenv.exe (the hung studio). After debugger is initializer, press "pause" and examine all threads (Debug->Window->Threads). Please give me traces for all managed threads, especially for threads named "Cache Update" and "Cache Load"
Thank you
Here is the screenshot for thread list. But call stack shows only [external code]
Can you guide me to find what you looking for ?
my msn messenger is xtro_free@hotmail.com

Thank you.
Somehow ReSharper fails to launch external process.... I've passed this issue to our QA to reproduce.
Anyway, the problem will be fixed in the bugfix update
I have installed new visual studio 2010 on the same computer with visual studio 2008 resharper 4.5 installed. And resharper 5 also won't work in vs 2010 it hangs while loading cache.
I tried to run VS2010 as administrator with the thinking of security conserns and it didnt help.
since 4.5 has no support for vs2010, atm, I cant use any resharper on vs2010
Then, I wanted to test it on a resharper free computer.
My friend's computer had vs2008 and vs2010 installed but no resharper.
1. I have installed resharper 4.5 on vs2008 on his computer.
2. created a new mvc 2 web project.
3. started full solution analyze from resharper options window. it worked.
4. unistalled resharper 4.5
5. reopened vs2008 to see it is uninstalled and closed vs2008.
6. installed resharper 5.0 on vs2010 only
7. created a new mvc 2 web project.
8. started full solution analyze from resharper options window. but it didnt work like in my own computer.
I hope this helps you to find the error.
I want to use resharper 5.0 on vs2010 asap
Hi,

I sent an email many days ago but I didn't get an answer. any progress on this ?
I still can't use reshaper vs2010. I dont want to reinstall vs2010 or win7 maybe.
Hi, I have the same problem from the first REsharper 5.0 beta nightly builds. In this thread http://www.jetbrains.net/devnet/thread/284367 we try to publish an issue, but no one from resharper developers want do anything. The problem is really annoying. I have reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate(release), install Visual Studio 2010 (release), install Resharper 5 (Release) and now I have the problem on my laptop. But on my work I have the same configuration and resharper 5.0 works fine. All betas, all realises, all nightly builds. Maybe problem in hardware (interferring with resharper code) ?
I have post an issue on the jetbrains developer site http://youtrack.jetbrains.net/issue/RSRP-171570, bug submitted, but no any activity on it. It is a very poor service... Guys, it`s realise, why we have this bug and no any solution on resolve it for the past 5 month?
I'm also getting the exact same behaviour. Any new developments on the issue?

Hello,
Thanks for the post. Could you please provide detailed hardware configuration of your working environment?
Also, please take a look at your windows services and try to find
-Local Communication Channel
If they are exist and run, try to disable them and run VS with R# again. Please let me know if it helps.
Thanks in advance!

Hello koby,
Please try turning off Solution-Wide analysis for your solution by editing
the
Could you please also check if enabling solution-wide analysis on a newly
created small class library project leads to the same problem (ReSharper
hangs while loading this project)? Thank you!

Hi,
I tested a new project c# class library.
I tried a fresh install both VS and Resharper (and also without VisualAssist) and to no avil.
As long as the "solution wide analysis" is switched off every thing goes well.
And once i switch on the "solution wide analysis" the IDE hangs on loading cache.
I gave it more then an hour before killing the VS IDE with the task manager.
I attached the test soultion.
Any more sugestions?

Hello,
Here is sample workaround how you can work with SWEA
1. Open VS
2. Open your project
3. Switch on SWEA. Waiting for the loading caches freeze
4. Kill the JetBrains.ExternalProcessStorage process
5. After that SWEA has to start working.
Let me know asap if it helps!
Of course we continue to try to reproduce this on the our side.

It worked.
I did exacly what you said, i killed the external process and the SWEA started working.
It did prompt the resharper exception dialog (with no exception to submit)
P.S
I reproduced you steps multiple times and it workes every time.
Hello,
Everyone who experienced the problem with hangs during the loading
caches, please try to download the newest nightly build (5.1.1746.21
will be published in one-two hour). Please let me know ASAP if it helps!
Thanks!

Fyi. I've done this, but found that it resulted in VS being extremely unstable. Every now and again, VS would lock up on me. This would often happen in the middle of renaming some method/property. But I wasn't able to reproduce it consistantly or find any error messages. There wouldn't be any JetBrains processes to kill either...Since I've fully disabled SWEA, I've not had any problems.

PS I'll be sure to try the new build as soon as its available. Thanks!
Installed the nightly build. So far so good! It loads up, no hang. We'll give it the next few days to see how it responds. Thanks!
