MSTest, VS2008, the magic grey dots...

Hello all:

I'm working with a VS2008 sp1 install, and a fresh R# 5.1 install as of 09/15/2010.  I've been working for a couple of days to get past the issue where my MSTests will not run.  I've found several posts here stating that there are problems, but I'm having difficulty finding resolutions.  Just to ensure I having cracked something in my main project, I created a new solution with a minimal class and test class, and completely reproduce the issue where a simple test will not run.  Yes, this runs as expected using the MS Test Runner... ugh!

Here's my failing test:
        [TestMethod]
        public void FirstTest()
        {
            SimpleItem item = null;
            Assert.IsNotNull(item);
        }

Green bar in the test runner, and the test has the magic grey dot.  Pretty obvoius issue.  Any help / guidance / reference to resolutions in the comments would be greatly appreciated, and will keep my barber employeed.

Thanks!!

PS:  I would post the solution, but I've hacked at it for so long that it may not be viable anymore.  If necessary, I can reproduce it in a few minutes and post.

Hi,

I can't reproduce this strange behavior. Could you please attach whole
demo solution? Thanks in advance!

Sure thing.  I've recreated the solution and included everything.  I've also included a PDF that describes what I'm seeing, which is in the root of the project.  I'm looking forward to any findings you have.

Thanks again!!

Quick update.  I was finally fed-up with trying to make it right, pulled up the handy-dandy FDISK and started fresh.  Now, everything works just peachy!!!

One thing I've noticed in the threads is many mentions of dotProfile being loaded and unloaded.  That was the case with me as well.  Just food for thought if you're still trying to isolate this one.

Thanks,
Joe
