5.1.1755 install failing or taking forever

I've noticed this with earlier versions as well, 1753 and 54

The install (1755) has been running for over 20 minutes and is especially slow at the "Uninstalling from VS 2010" part. The scroll bar is almost motionless. All instances of VS are closed.

I gave up and hit the Abort button but it is not responsive. It doesn't abort. How long should I wait for the abort to kick in before I kill the process?

After 5 minutes I went and killed the process. After restarting the install, got some weird messages, one saying it's going to add some random text to a folder location, then it finally completed after a few minutes.

I have a hi perf machine quad core 12GB RAM.

Hello,

Could you please check if there's a devenv.exe process running when the installer
hangs in 'Uninstalling from Visual Studio 2010' or 'Installing into Visual
Studio 2010' state? If there's one, try terminating it. Thank you!

I did notice a devenv process running at that time, I had assumed that was appropriate. What I did was terminate the msi

processes and re-ran the installer.

I'm installing 1756 right now and it was on the step "installing VS 2010 package" or something like that and that step took quite a long time. Historically, R# installs have been pretty quick. This seems to have changed dramatically.

And then the next step is the "uninstalling from VS 2010". Seems a bit odd that an  uninstall step comes after an install step.

And there is a devenv process. This is the same behavior I saw in 1755 and possibly 1754. Would this be a bug?

So I killed the devenv process and the installer woke up, but now it's back in the "Uninstalling from VS 2010" step and a devenv process is visible.

I killed that and the installer woke up again and is taking a *very* long time on the "Installing into VS 2010" step. Should I kill devenv on this step also?

BTW, I selected only VS 2010 at the initial "integrate into VS versions" step.

This is turning out to be a bit of an ordeal. I've spent over 20 minutes trying to install 1756 and it's still not completed.

Does JB test R# on the 2008 server platform? That's what I'm using as my dev machine.

R# has always in the past been a tool that has increased my productivity. Lately it has had the opposite affect. I've spent more time fighting R# than enjoying any of its benefits.

I've waited on the stalled "Installing into VS 2010" step long enough, the progress bar hasn't budged, I'm going to kill the devenv process (I have kept VS closed the entire time).

OK, that made the install process complete. I hope this gets treated as an installer defect.

Hello,

Do I understand correctly that this didn't happen with the original ReSharper
5.1.1 installer? Could you please run 'devenv.exe /setup' from Visual Studio
2010 command line and check if it finishes in a reasonable amount of time?

Didn't hang this time w/ 1756 on Win 7 Ultimate. but still took what I found a bit of an uncomfortable amount of time on both the "Uninstalling from VS 2010" and "Installing into VS 2010" steps.

Overall, the 5.1 installs are very noticeably longer than the 4.5 or whatever it was before 2010 support.

Hello,

The installer must run Visual Studio during the installation process, so
that ReSharper could be integrated properly. It seems that Visual Studio
2010 can take really long to complete this step, but I'm afraid there's nothing
we can do about that. Thank you!

1760 install went quite well, a very reasonably quick install.
