Almost November and no EAP 6.1, what changes are in 6.1?

Hi there,

Firstly good effort in trying to improve performance for resharper, I think this is very critical going forward and hopefully it continues beyond 6.1 so that we no longer encounter performance problems from one version to another.

I was just wondering if you guys could give some sort of firm date when you expect the first EAPs would be available. In another post you mentioned September which has come and gone, October is nearly over.

So should we expect it in:

  • 1 Day
  • 1 Month
  • 3 Months

It would be good to get a test version out so that we can see how much of an improvement has been made.

Also could you guys provide maybe a feature map or changes / improvements for 6.1 or what to look forward to?

Thanks again for all your time and effort

Regards DotnetShadow

JetBrains: Any chance that there could be a "6.0.1" release with a few of the critical performance issues addressed, assuming this is feasible? I don't think those of us with performance problems necessarily want an EAP for 6.1, we just want a fix to performance issues, be it rolling back to 5.x (ouch!), a bugfix for 6.0, or an EAP for 6.1.

I think it's obvious that we will not be getting it in two weeks. All we can do is wait. Tick Tock! ;\

@JetBrains: Your forum editor is bugging as ever. I had to manual edit the HTML to get it "right". Not that I would ever care that much about a post but I want it to display correctly.

More info would be great.  I've been holding off on reverting to ReSharper 5 since 6.1 has always seemed so imminent.  If it really isn't coming out anytime soon it would be quite helpful. Right now I'm just suspending ReSharper 6 whenever it starts going crazy with the processing of files.

I'm hoping for a good, usable, EAP because I'm at the point where I cannot program without Resharper, but also getting to the point where I cannot program with Resharper.

That a very nice way to express how I feel. ;\

I'm so happy with R# but at the same so upset with R#.

Yes, some information on this would be much appreciated.

I am back to using 5 because of the "constantly processing source files" issue in 6.0.  It's great that that's fixed, but that does me no good, because I can't get the fix!  It is a bit annoying to have bought 6.0 (I already had a license to 5) but be unable to use it at all, especially I think many of the perf improvements in 6 are incredibly effective - just wiped out for me by this one issue.

I realize you want to have VS 2011 support in 6.1, and I appreciate that.  But could we get a 6.0.1 with the critical issues you have fixed put in?  Or an EAP with the fixes?  Or a patch?  Or something?

**Edit**: One of the things I want to stress here is that dealing with the support staff has been great.  Answering my questions, never misleading me, and keeping me informed.  I also did notice that aside from the one bug affecting me, the perf seemed much improved.   I am just getting a little impatient to get the fixed code in my hands so that I can use R#6 again!

I have read all the comments and here are some suggestions:

Based on tickets, feedback and reported issues, the Resharper team can provide a list of things-to-look-for which give tips on how to troubleshoot performance issues. Does the same solution have the same performance issues on different machines?

If people can't share their projects with Jetbrains maybe R# team can provide a special build of R# with instrumentation and performance counters and timers built in which log to files and the R# people can analyze the output?

I checked the forums on two other competitors and searched for "performance", The listing showed several results. It seems performance is a common issue with this type of tool. I don't think the tools will make everyone happy. Try the other tools and see if they have similar performance issues with the same projects.

or wait for 6.1 and see if performance has improved.

I am sure R# team does all kinds of testing. Maybe they can test against some big open source projects. I think DotNetNuke is one of the biggest around. They have converted to C# a few months ago.
If you know of an open source project which has a R# performance, tell R# team about it and they can verify and test the same project.

Instead of just complaining R# is slow, help them out by providing cases which they can replicate. Spend time looking for open source projects which exhibit performance symptoms.
We are all developers and you know it's annoying when a user tells you there's a bug without telling you what it is or how to reproduce it.

Yaay, the EAP Is out.

abdu - my main pain point was not  getting the ReSharper team to acknowledge or fix the issue.  I did correspond with support, and the issue was identified and I was given the link to the issue tracker to follow it's progress.  The issue was fixed.  I've been using R# since 4.0, and this is my first time encountering a "show stopper".

My annoyance was simply that I couldn't actually get the fix, and it was stopping me from using R# 6.0.   Hopefully when critical issues like this are found/fixed in the future, some process will allow us to get the fixes a bit faster.

General performance wasn't my issue - in fact overall performance was much improved for me in 6.0.  I simply had one roadblock issue.
(FYI, my issue was this one: http://youtrack.jetbrains.net/issue/RSRP-274042?query=in%3A+rsrp+%23%7BPerformance+Problem%7D+Fix+versions%3A+6.1+%23Fixed)

Hello All,

I'm glad to announce that we have finally started the Early Access Program
for ReSharper 6.1 which is available at http://tinyurl.com/6bdgz6p. This
is only the first EAP build, but we kindly ask everyone, who has experienced
performance problems or bugs which should have been fixed, to install that
build and check if it's better. Thank you!
