Settings / Options Suggestion: Search and/or Filter

Since there are a ton of settings and some of the lists are quite long, it would be really nice to be able to search the settings (eg. for "tabs" or "trailing" etc.) and within long lists, it would be handy to either filter or highlight matching text.

For example in places like "Inspection Severity" the lists are quite long it is can be pretty tedious to find an option, especially if the way you think of it is different than the phrasing JetBrains chose.

Thanks!

There is a "Search" box at the top of the Inspection Severity page in 10.0.1; it looks disabled, but it's not.

Yup, that's nice; it's in the Custom Patterns too.

It would be nice to have that in many other places and/or a global version of it.

For example, it would help a lot in finding a Formatting Style that might be found somewhere under "Blank Lines," "Line Breaks and Wrapping" "Spaces," or "Other."

You can also use the search box in the top left of the options dialog, above the tree of pages. This will search across all pages, and filter down the tree views in inspection settings, formatting and so on to show what you've searched for.

Ah ha, I didn't notice that.   It is pretty close, though for some reason it disables things, so you can't scroll down in the lists boxes to see what's highlighted.

Yeah, if this didn't disable things, it would do the trick.   Also, it seems to filter some lists, but not others.

Could you let me know what's being disabled? I don't see that.

Ah, it was just that the first few options that appeared were disabled (like the list box in completion filters); I thought it was a side-effect of the search, but just coincidence.

Looks like it's all there. :)
