[222] Still something wrong with highlights

Its still something wrong with fonts and color highlight.

So, first start of 222. Trying to open few
files on project. All okay.
Open another file (maybe in my help to track bug - difference of this source
from each other - this source contain derrived class from library of
another project in multyproject solution in same namespace. And one
imported ActiveX library), i see how R# progress bar in bottom right
corner is finished and closed, and... Boom!
Next what i see - its my desctop with sexy girl.
No VS anywhere around. VS application is simple lost, collapsed
w/o any windows error.
Windows event log contain record:
.NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.42 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (7A2B45A2)
(0)

So, i trying to restart VS, its all okay, killer-source file is opened,
but now i see no R# specific colors.

In VS options all resharper specific options are lost, as attached
screenshot. (in first run of 222 - its been exist!)
Restarting windows, unistalling and reinstalling R# 222, importing
settings from old profile - aren't help.

Hello ivan.tsarevich,

looks like ReSharper got too impressed by your desktop :)

Seriously, it seems there was a problem in 222 that might cause a crash when
an editor is opened
during solution load. It has been fixed in 223 which we'll publish soon.
As for problems with missing
Fonts and Colors entries, unfortunately we have no news on this - you may
try resetting all settings,
running 'devenv /setup' and one of those operations or a their combinattion
will likely help.

More details about lost highlights.

I didn't find any combination with devenv reset to
restore highlight settings in VS .vssettings file.

One more detail. As i find after few experiments,
changes to .vssettings file makes not by R# installer.
Sections to .vssettings adds in runtime, while VS
devenv start. Right?

So... then something wrong with this. Why did R#
not restore sections in .vssettings after .net framework
crash? Also after full reinstall.

I find one way to restore color highlight settings -
Its install build 219 (last most stable what i know).
But installing and run 222 again kill R# sections in .vssettings
again.
Hard wrongs with R# 222 after crash and reinstalling
doesn't help. But 219 work fine.

Hello ivan.tsarevich,

what do you mean by 'R# section in .vssettings'? ReSharper doesn't directly
modify that file,
and I suspect that what you see there are names of ReSharper commands that
are put there
by VS when ReSharper assigns keyoard shortcuts.

True. I find these color settings in registry. But why VS environment didn't
get
its values in build 222... while in build 219 its all okay.

4 all: Feeday! :) Yeah! \m/ \m/

Hi Dmitry

Got any hints on how to reset the settings? I haven't had any R# colors in my fonts & colors settings since I installed 217 and I run /setup each time after an uninstall of Resharper and then again after installing the new version. So something like:

1) deinstall R#
2) run devenv.exe /setup
3) install new build of R#
4) run devenv.exe /setup (maybe twice just for good measure)

And the colors never show up :-(. Any ideas on how to get them back at all??

Regards Patrick

Hello Patrick,

actually 'devenv /setup' should be run during both uninstallation and installation
of ReSharper.
Please also try to reset all settings : Tools|Import and Export Settings|Reset
All Settings,
then run 'devenv /setup' again and check if it helps.

Hello Dmitry,

I had this very problem several times. What I did (and what fixed it for
me) is the following: I have copied the content of HCU\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\FontsAndColors
from good installation to the broken one.

After comparing the snapshots before and after this fix I found that the
subkey {A27B4E24-A735-4D1D-B8E7-9716E1E3D8E0} was missing, so likely this
was the culprit.

Hello Maxim,

as I've just mentioned in another thread, the problem with wrong colors
as well as missing ReSharper entries in the Fonts and Colors dialog seem to
be related to a caching of colors that VS 2005 does. The GUID you mention
means 'Text Editor' category in Fonts and Colors, and this matches with the
fact that in
that very category ReSharper entries are sometimes missing (they are always
visible
in another category 'Printer'). BTW, have you noticed any pattern in when
the problem
happened for you?

Hello Dmitry,

BTW, have you noticed any pattern in when the problem happened for you?

Unfortunately no. As usual it happened occasionally. I also tried to do the
already recommended steps
with devenv /setup, tried reinstalling Resharper but with no success.

In case you can reliably diagnose (e.g. during startup) that the problem
exists in the current
installation it would be nice to have some automatic way to fix it (like
restoring the above mentioned key).

BTW, you have certainly use the unreleased hotfix for VS. Does the problem
with missing color assignments
happen to you? If no, this probably means that it's just another incarnation
of the same bug.

Hello Maxim,

I think that the problem could not appear in a recent installation, as nothing
related to
registry modification has changed for quite a long time already.

I had to uninstall the unreleased hotfix, as it was incompatible with published
symbol files for
VS dlls, which I'm periodically using for debugging. But I have recollections
that at the time
I was using the hotfix, the problem with 'black on black' colors still happened
to me.

Well.. What do you mean by recent installation? I have come across this issue
while using build 220 about a week ago.

Hello Maxim,

I meant that the problem could hardly be introduced in one of the recent
builds.
