Are Live Template Abbreviations Supposed to Work when Using Intellisense?

I've noticed that Live template abbreviations don't work when using Visual Studio Intellisense. Is this not a supported scenario?

I've even noticed that using Ctrl+J doesn't always work with VS Intellisense as the VS intellisense will lay it self over the R# intellisense once I start typing if there is a "starts with" match between the two drop-downs (VS intellisense & R# Live Template List)
