[239] Stability

Hi,

I perceived build 236 as very stable, whereas 237, 238 and 239 are unstable. I get a lot more exceptions with these newer builds than with 236.

Is this just my perception, or is there a regression problem?

Kind regards
Hartmut

Have you submitted those exception via the submit form?

Hi,

I was fine in 238, but in 239 I get http://www.intellij.net/tracker/resharper/viewSCR?publicId=24268
in my face every several seconds, during typing, saving, building, opening
a file, you name it. This is in VS2003.

Still, everything seems to work, and after I checked "Do not show this exception
again" I'm doing fine (though this error might be breaking something I'm
not noticing).

Yes, today alone, I submitted more than 10 exceptions. (and yes, I checked "ignore").

for me it's the same since build 239. In my solution this exception starts to occur
when i open a Form or a UserControl in the Designer. Even if i mark the checkbox
"Don't show this exception again" the exeption occurs. As long as i only edit
sourcecode everything works well. I tried to close the solution, delete R# cache
and all binaries produced by the compiler but this doesn't help. All my Forms and
UserControls uses Controls from the Syncfusion Essential Studio controls collection.

I have seen this too...

I constantly get issues with Bug # 22726 & 21360 every time I open a
solution in VS2005.

Also, if I have a stored procedure open, and I try to edit a file, VS
crashes.

I have seen these problems since version 237. I had to update from 236,
because of another stored procedure bug that was fixed for 237. Hopefully
these issues will be fixed pretty soon

Hello Randy,

could you please elaborate on the problem editing a stored procedure? How
do you open its text? Do you
have a solution opened when you edit the procedure? And how does VS crash?
Thanks in advance.

Dmitry,

Here are how I reproduce this.

Open VS2005
Open Solution... Get Error message. Bug #22726
Open Stored Proc via Server Exlplorer
Open CS File (contains unfinished enum), Get Error Message. Bug #20404
Click on source file to position cursor at next line.
VS2005 Hangs for 30sec - 1min
Get MS Crash Dialog for VS2005,
VS2005 restarts.

This is obviously making it impossible to work.

I have tried a couple of variations on this, and the StoredProc being open
seems irrelevant. Also, I am noticing that the 5 Resharper windows (Type
Heirchy, Unit Test Runner, Find Results, File Structure, Stack Trace
Explorer) open automatically when the solution is loaded. I don't know why,
or how to turn this off

I hope this is enough info. Do you have any status on bugs #22726, 21360, &
20404. I seem to encounter them pretty regluarly... especially 22726. This
happens EVERY time I open a solution.

I'm not sure if its important, but this solution was converted from C# 1.1

if you try to open another solution?

Dmitry,

Yes, I had the same problem when opening my solution, and when opening
Microsoft's Enterprise Library (Jan 2006) solution.

I also created a brand new test solution from VS2005. Closed VS,
Re-opened...then opened the solution

I got the problem even then. So, yes, for me it happens every time I open
any solution.

Hello Randy,

so do I understand correctly that you the following sequence leads to the
problem:

1) Launch fresh VS
2) Create a new ConsoleApplication1 solution
3) Close VS
4) Launch fresh VS
5) Open the ConsoleApplication1 solution ?

Randy,

actually I see little sense in sending a Console App solution - I presume
there is nothing special in it.
It would be more important to know if there is anything special in your VS
configuration - in particular,
don't you have an option set to automatically load the last opened solution
on starting VS? what tool windows
are shown by default (e.g. do you have a Server Explorer window shown by
default and any
server connections there)? etc... anything that may be related to this problem.
The reason
I'm asking is that other users don't get this exception, so it seems to be
related to the
specific environment.

Dmitry,

Ok... I'll go over the config options.

Start up windows are Server Exporer, Code window, and Solution Explorer

Settings:
General
Window Layout: tabbed
Add-in/Macros Securtity
Allow macros to run (checked)
Allow Add-in components to load (checked)
Allow Add-in components to from a URL (not checked)
Add-in File Paths

%VSCOMMONAPPDATA%\Addins

Startup:
At Startup: Load last loaded solution (Note that I still had this
problem when it was set to Start Page)

I'm not sure what other settings might be useful. I am Running XPSP2. I
also have VS2003 w/Reshaper[236] installed on the same machine.

I didn't have this problem prior to build 237. Let me know if there is
anything else that might be affecting it.

Could it be some sort of applicaiton cache issue?

It would be more important to know if there is anything special in your VS
configuration - in particular, don't you have an option set to
automatically load the last opened solution on starting VS? what tool
windows
are shown by default (e.g. do you have a Server Explorer window shown by
default and any
server connections there)? etc... anything that may be related to this
problem. The reason I'm asking is that other users don't get this
exception, so it seems to be related to the
specific environment.

I was running VS2005 Build 240, side by side with VS2003 Build 236. I

Hello Randy,

that's odd, ReSharper builds for VS 2003 and VS 2005 are competely independent.
Are you experiencing this
problem with the build 241 for VS 2003 and VS 2005? Thanks.

Dmitry,

I installed Build 241 for 2005, and tested... I started getting the errors
for #22726 again (VS2003 was still on Build 240).

I updated VS2003 to Build 241, and tried again.

I got new bugs when I did this, #24857 followed by #24917. I tried doing
this twice.

Also, I have VS2005 configured to load the most recent solution, and when I
first opened VS2005 (while VS2003 was still on build 240) my solution
explorer was empty. Though it returned after the VS2003 update was done,
though I got the bugs listed above.
