Error installing ReSharper under Windows Vista

Hi,

When I try to install the latest ReSharper build under Windows Vista, it fails with the following error message (screenshot attached):

"Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

I've extracted the MSI package from the downloaded EXE archive in order to generate log from MSI. Resulting log is attached as well.

Hello Igor,

unfortunately I can't determine the reason of the failure using this log.
Could you please try to install again and send yet another log?
Actually you can easily get the installation log by providing '/l' option
to the ReSharper's installer executable - this will bring the notepad
after the installation has completed. Thanks.

The first thing I always try if it fails a couple of attempts is to
redownload the complete package to make sure it is not a corrupted download.

Then if that fails too I would try to install a different build. Have you
tried the build released today (build 252)?

Gabriel, thanks for your reply, but I've already tried all of your suggestions.
In fact, I've tried to install the last 3 builds (250-252) with no success.
I can install the very same files when running XP.

Hello Igor,

I checked the log, and it looks that the problem in the custom install action
run during installation. You can try to do the following:

1) Run installer as usually and wait until the error dialog appears.
2) With the error dialog displayed on the screen, run the following command:

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\InstallUtil.exe /VsVersion="8.0"

/InstallDir="C:\Program Files\JetBrains\ReSharper\VS2005\" "C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE
PrivateAssemblies\JetBrains.ReSharper.VS.dll"

Having the error dialog opened is necessary as otherwise the rollback will
start that will remove the necessary files. Please check how the command
above completes and notify us. Thanks.

The output message was pretty much useless - although it gave me a clue:
somewhere there is an path that is not quote-delimited, thus leading to this
error message:

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Unable to load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Users\igor.leite\Files\Microsoft'
...

Hello Igor,

while I'm studying your logs, a quick question - where is the Visual Studio
installed on your machine?

I actually have no idea where that odd path could come from. Paths containing
spaces are normal, and
installer shouldn't have troubles with them. Not sure how it got truncated
to ''...\Microsoft"...

Dmitry, using only standard, default paths. That path probably should be
"Microsoft Visual Studio 8" folder redirected from Program Files to my user
profile folder due to the new Vista security features.

Igor I would find it strange that the new virtualization in Vista is causing
this. I will try to install Windows Vista Beta 2 this weekend and see if I
can reproduce this.
