[500] Slow startup

I've tried both 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 #500, but with both versions I'm
experiencing long load times for one of my projects. I've attached the log
file which contains the following lines:

(...)
13:42:04.713: Thread:8: Caches2: Loaded in 62 msec
13:42:04.822: Thread:8: Can't find a unique name for the project &
13:49:02.236: Thread:1: OnWmActivate Active=1 Disposed=False.
(...)

As you can see, it takes 7 minutes for this step to complete. I got a fast
CPU and 4 GB RAM, but can still hear continous disk access ("trashing")
during these seven minutes.

Other projects and solutions consisting of several (other) projects seems to
load fine.

I did not have this problem prior to 3.0.x.

Thanks,

Dag Christensen

Hello Dag,

is there anything special about this project (e.g. number of files, their
size)? Do you have any other 3rd
party VS extensions installed? And what are the values of memory usage parameters
in Task Manager ('Mem Usage'
and 'VM Size' columns)?

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I did some further testing, and the problem was caused by a corrupt link
between the project and our source control system (StarTeam) which wasn't
indicated/reported anywhere in VS. Fixing this also fixed/eliminated the
delay.

Thanks,

Dag

OK, I'm happy that the problem is resolved. Thanks for an informative post
- we observed similar gaps between log entries before but never found an
explanation.
Your scenario, broken version control integration, is at least one origin
those gaps come from.

I too am experiencing excruciatingly long load times now that I'm on 3.0.2 500. I didn't experience this prior to the upgrade.

devenv.exe takes about 50% of CPU during this period of time.

I'll try to see if there's another issue at play here, such as a source control problem.
