ReSharper icon is still in the Visual Studio splash screen after uninstalling

Hello

I have completely uninstalled ReSharper 4 because we are trying to track
down an issue in Visual Studio 2008. When I start Visual Studio I noticed
that the ReSharper 4 icon still appears in the splash screen. I just wanted
to report this.

Does “devenv.exe /setup” change anything?

Nope, the icon is still in the splash screen. I have installed the latest
nightly build and uninstalled and the same problem there.

I think that something might be wrong on my machine. I installed the Visual
Studio PowerCommands and when I run Visual Studio I do'nt see the icon for
the PowerCommands in the splash screen.

When I run devenv /splash I see the correct splash screen, no ReSharper icon
and the icon for PowerCommands is visible but when I run devenv.exe I get to
see the old splash screen. I will report this on the Visual Studio forum.

Is there any R# package listed in the Help->About dialog?

Is there the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\Packages\{0c6e6407-13fc-4878-869a-c8b4016c57fe}
Registry key (or, maybe, under HKCU)?

I found a solution for this. It seems that there is a cache for the symbols on the splash screen.

After I uninstalled an Add-In from another manufacturer and installed ReSharper afterwards the splash didn't show ReSharper but the uninstalled AddIn's symbol. So I tried various command lines at the Run window's prompt. Finally solely "devenv" showed me the correct splash screen.
What I did then is I deleted the "Run in" (directory) entry of the VS 2008 shortcut and left it blank. After some UAC-Action I finally got a shortcut that starts a VS 2008 that shows a correct splash screen.

The questions now seem to be: Why that strange behavior? Where is the cache if there is one? Can we simply delete it to get correct splashes?

Hello,

Normally, devenv.exe /setup would clean up the splash screen caches ... But
sometimes it just would not. Running it again manually fixes the thing.

I too use the PowerCommands. How easy would it be to make a version of PowerCommands that is a Resharper plugin rather than a VS plugin?

Hello brantheman,

Looking at features on Visual Studio Gallery, I see that most of them are
either doubtful, same or similar functionality exists in ReSharper, or can
be easily developed as plugin. What features do you want most?

I assume you were looking at this page: http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/PowerCommands

I use the "Collapse Projects", "Open Containing Folder", and especially the "Locate in Solution Explorer" on the document tab context menu (not listed on the above web page).

Thanks for your solution. I also had this issue.

Hello brantheman,

ReSharper already has "Locate in Solution Explorer" command, see ReSharper
/ View menu.
Open Containing Folder is available in VS 2008 on the document tab, do you
really need it in Solution Explorer?

As for Collapse Projects, this is something we are going to add to ReSharper,
when we have some spare time.
