Resharper damaged my life!

From the moment I began to use Resharper my life changed dramatically. Now
I came to the point when I understand, that actually Resharper is killer
application - it kills my experience with other products!

1. I hit Alt-Enter when editing text in Microsoft Word when word or sentence
is underlined with error.
2. I hit Ctrl-Shift-Up/Down to swap paragraphs in text, rows in spreadsheet.
3. I try to navigate to definition when I don't understand something in MSDN.
4. I try to use rename refactoring when I need to rename folder or file on
my disk.
5. I can no longer use FAR to edit source code. In any language.
6. When creating HTML pages I try to use optimize and reformat to make source
look neat.
...
99. I even think about refactorings and code navigation when I use plain
paper for code mock-up!

Any ideas on how can I use my computer these days, other than editing C#
source code with Resharper?

:))

Sincerely,
Ilya Ryzhenkov

You think you're in trouble now; wait until they release their full-blown
IDE. I've used IDEA (their Java IDE) heavily for the past few years and feel
like I've had an arm chopped off while using Visual Studio (only one arm
though, thanks to Resharper, it would likely be both arms and a leg otherwise).

Hello Chris,

we will consider it a real success when ReSharper becomes able to replace
developer's head,
not an arm or a leg :)

Great comments Ilya! :)

You may be interested to read about our research project called MPS. It
will bring such productivity features to many languages, and could
theoretically be applied to many of your examples, such as word
processing and spreadsheets. See the article at
http://www.onboard.jetbrains.com/is1/articles/04/10/lop/ and the MPS
website at http://www.jetbrains.com/mps/

Please note, it's still in its very early stages, but it's something
nice to fantasize about!

Thank you for a note, but I already checked this out and subscribed to appropriate
RSS feeds, using Omea Reader of course :))

Dmitry!

Hey, stop here! I do like my head and don't like it to be replaced :) What
you could focus on for the future product, are several buttons entitled "Perform
Work". Developer will need to carefully choose button and use his head to
the full power!

we will consider it a real success when ReSharper becomes able to
replace
developer's head,

Not particular to Resharper but I simple CAN'T stop trying to autocomplete
words in Word with CTRL-SPACE. It´s actually quit annoying :)

Hi Ilya,

This has nothing to do with jetbrains, you need to submit this list to
the appropriate MS development teams (Word, Explorer) ;-p

I have to admit I have similar behavioural disorders for a long time now
(since photoshop supports multiple undo levels), like trying to press
ctrl+z when dropping a cup of coffee and recording macro's for washing
the dishes. Not to mention screaming F1 when nearly drowning.

Ofcourse Resharper only makes this worse and worse, I don't finish words
anymore, and quote sentences that don't even exist yet, waiting for the
popup that says 'create quote'. I'ts getting harder and harder to
communicate with people who don't know resharper.

Wiebe 8-p )))
