Resharper Build 8.2.1000.4556 crashes VS 2013 to desktop when network connection fails

Hi,

I have a terrible network connection - the maximum download speed I get is rarely more than 18 kb/s! The network connection is over "3G" but in this part of the world (interior of the state of Para in Brazil) I might as well use two cans and a piece of string!

Unfortunately, Resharper can't handle my operator's incredible service (VIVO), and when the internet connection drops, VS 2013 crashes to the desktop. This can happen any where up to 20 times in an hour. I have now grown used to typing one word and pressing Ctrl-S.

From the attached log file, it is clear that Resharper is trying to call home and the exception occurs somewhere inside NetSockets. Note that it crashes not only when the internet goes down, but also when it comes back again.

Needless to say that it is impossible to work like this!

Any chance of a quick fix???

Many thanks
Jeremy

Hi,

You might want to contact JetBrain's support directly for this issue.

I don't represent JetBrains, but if this was happening to me I would try blocking VS2013 from accessing the internet using Window's firewall. VS and ReShaper should work just fine when there is no internet connection.

This error in the log might also have nothing to do with why VS crashed. The two could just be happening at the sametime.

Hi

That's a very good idea.

I'll try it and report back.

Thanks
Jeremy

Unfortunately blocking access to the internet for VS means that it crashes directly!

This is what I would do in VS 2012, sorry I don't have 2013.

Go to menu Tools / Extensions and Updates, and disable all tools you've added to VS.
Go to menu Tools / Options /ReSharper and select Suspend Now. Exist VS and block internet again and start VS. Does it still crash? If it doesn't crash, uninstall ReSharper and re-install.

If that doesn't work. Does it still crash if you go to Network Connections and disable your connection?

Send an email with your logs to support at jetbrains dot com.
