When will resharper's poor performance be fixed?

Hi All,

I'd like to address the elephant in the room, resharpers performance.

I've been using resharper for as long as i can remember, but about 8 months ago switch it off and didn't renew my licence due to the poor performance it has on small-medium projects. You can see lots of other people here with the same issue and we've all tried countless fixes which don't work.

When will Jetbrain acknowledge and address this problem? They are happy releasing new features (which is great to entice new customers) but what about your existing ones?

I want to use resharper again but not until they address this issue

Hello Steven,

We do constantly work on ReSharper performance improvement, but some problems can only be solved by taking ReSharper out of the process. This is a massive architectural challenge and will take some time. The progress can be tracked here: https://blog.jetbrains.com/dotnet/2020/02/24/update-running-resharper-process/

Anyway, we do our best to fix current performance issues. We'd be grateful if you could provide us a performance snapshot to investigate what causes issues in your specific case. Here's help article describing how to perform profiling - https://resharper-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/207243205-How-to-collect-a-performance-snapshot-and-send-it-to-JetBrains-Team? Please specify the steps that lead to the problem in the snapshot details.
P.S. Please also refer to the following guide - https://www.jetbrains.com/help/resharper/Speeding_Up_ReSharper.html describing how to speed up ReSharper + VS.

Thank you.

I have been dealing with performance issues for many versions now. I hope on every new version install that performance will get better but it never happens. My rig is a Threadripper 32 core processor, 64 gigs of ram, 4 NVMe Raid 0 drive... I have the machine that should perform like a boss. VS screams without R#. With R# I can barely type without it constantly hanging. VS has been literally crashing and restarting. I've cleared cached, reinstalled, and still on first load of a solution... boom VS crashes. Again if I disable R# VS is uber fast and NEVER crashes. I have hit my limit. I literally came to the forum hoping to find some answer but it seems I'm not the only one. I've threatened and threaten for years now to stop using R#. This is my final straw. I'm uninstalling R# and never coming back. The value that R# brings is not work the performance hit.
