[hope this hasn't been noted already - I did a search of the newsgroup and
didn't see it mentioned, but if I missed this being discussed to death,
please accept my apology in advance]
I've been noticing an issue with an error message box appearing from Visual
Studio when I open a web project:
"Refreshing the project failed. Unable to retrieve folder information from
The error is non-fatal and everything seems to work fine after the dialog is
dismissed, but it does happen everytime the solution is loaded.
A quick Google suggests that the issue might be that Visual Studio doesn't
like directories that start with a '.' in web project solution directories.
This only seems to be a problem for people who, during development, either
move their solutions to be co-located with their web project files or
vice-versa. (I'm not sure how common this is - we do it to keep all the
files of a product together and to make version control easier)
To verify this, I tried creating a new C# web service solution from scratch.
Saving and reloading the project in the default directory layout was no
problem [web project in c:\inetpub\wwwroot, solution files under my
documents\visual studio projects]. However, when I moved the web project
files from c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ResharperTest to c:\documents and
settings\me\my documents\visual studio projects\ResharperTest [to put it
next to the solution files; also requires deletion and recreation of the IIS
Virtual Directory], I start getting the error message.
Is there any way to control what Resharper names its directory? Or,
alternately, could you just make the default name not start with a '.'?
