Go To Symbol removed in 210?

Hi,

I just installed ReSharper 2.0 build 210, and it seems like the Go To Symbol function (Ctrl-Alt-Shift-N) has been removed. Anyone can confirm? That function is extremely useful. :\

Thanks,
Alexandre

Hello Alexandre,

unfortunately it has really been removed. We're in process
of some internal redesign which makes efficient implementation
of the Go To Symbol feature somewhat complicated. Whether the feature
will be supported in the final release is currently under discussion.

Perhaps I was not clear enough - the whole purpose of the redesign is to
dramatically
reduce ReSharper's memory footprint at the cost of loosing the ability to
efficiently enumerate
members.

Hello Dmitry,

Oh no! I tried Resharper 2xx builds several times and already found this
feature to be extremely useful. However, I didn't use 2xx for long time and
fortunately didn't get used to this feature. Is it possible to implement
this feature in the "search" manner, so one can wait for the search results
and see them in a window like "find usages", not in the drop-down list?

Hello Ilya,

I think we have to discuss it. Personally I see no obstacles, though the
resulting functionality
will be nearly not as useful as was the old Go To Symbol feature - it would
better be named 'Find
Symbols'. By the way, I have vague recollections that VS already has Find
Symbol feature, though
I'm not sure if it accepts wildcards.

A well done "Find Symbol" feature might be all that is necessary...
especially if you have the option to specify that you know it's a field, or
a member, or a type, or a local, or a parameter... i.e. allow filtering up
front like that.

Hello Valentin,

Will there be "Find symbol" version in 2.0? I understand this could be potentially
long operation and is not suitable for "Go to symbol", but can it be just
"Better search"? I can wait for it to process my files, but I need to find
symbols. Of course, it should work with wildcards, otherwise it will be not
much better than text search.

Sincerely,
Ilya Ryzhenkov

No, there will not be such feature in 2.0. In fact the set of features is
now complete and we do only bugfixing.
