Hello Paul,

Try here: http://www.jetbrains.net/confluence/display/ReSharper/Nightly+Builds

I am running build 604 for quite a while now on a very big web project and
the performance has been much better than the released version.

~Andy

Can someone point me to the latest Resharper 3.1.x nightly build? I
can't seem to find it.

I understand the latest build has some performance improvements for
website projects... yes?

The performance of the released 3.1 is just unacceptably slow for
website projects (taking over ten minutes to open the solution, vs
mere seconds without it). I'm trying to get my fellow developers to
use Resharper again, but the few that tried with 3.1 just immediately
uninstalled again due to the really horrible performance.

I'd like to get some of them to try the latest nightly build and see
if it's any better.

Please, JetBrains, this HAS to be resolved soon. ANY chance you can
release a 3.x version prior to 4.x, with just those performance
improvements in it?

Thanks!

I grabbed this nightly build and handed it over to one of our web
developers. We use websites not web projects (alas), and the performance is
still horrible.

It took 10 minutes to load initially, but subsequent loading is between 3-4
minutes. This IS a bit better than the release version, but it's still
very, very painful.

Are you experiencing anything like that?

JetBrains folks: Can you please feel our pain on this one and make it an
absolute priroity for fixing in the very near future? (i.e. performance)

Hello Paul,

It used to be that bad for us until we upgraded our hardware. Now it is
better, but still quite slow. I agree that JetBrains has a lot of work to
do to bring up the performance to be on par with non-web projects. Its been
a problem ever since version 2.0 and it would be nice if they addressed it
as I have met several people who refuse to use it because of the performance
issues with the web sites. Its still a net gain for me, but not without
some cost.

We are stuck with some pretty old hardware (old Pentium 4 3.2Ghz, single
core, hyper-threaded... old Dell machines from several years ago), and we're
running Vista SP1 on them.

We'll be upgrading developer machines over the next two years. I'm in line
next, but most of the web developers won't be getting a new machine for a
year, probably. Thus, we really need to get a version of Resharper with
some optimizations and performance improvements, particularly in the area of
loading solutions with websites in them.

More than HALF our developers that were using Resharper have uninstalled it,
and are very reluctant to go back. And that's really sad. I'd like to see
EVERYONE using it, as it just produces better code, faster. And honestly, I
tried using VS2008 without it, and didn't last 2 hours. It's like
developing with stone knives and bear skins. But I can't push requiring it
for the whole development team when it has this huge performance cost, re:
websites (which I happen to not work on).

4.0 really really needs to be faster. LOTS faster. JetBrains really needs
to get some LARGE websites to test on, so they can see and feel the pain
themselves, and find optimizations and solutions for it.

One thing I noticed by using ProcessMonitor is that at load there is excessive writing on:
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\JetBrains\ReSharper\v3.1\vs8.0\typeIndex.xml
The file doesn't seem to change, it just seems to be writing to it a lot, then starting over and writing to it some more, and repeating until something times out.

Making that file read only knocked several minutes off of the load time.

I'm using build 608.
