Visual Studio 2008 crashes after installing Resharper.

I have installed the demo version of Resharper, but now VS2008 crashes on exiting. If I uninstall Resharper VS does not crash. If I then reinstall Resharper it crashes again on closing. VS only crashes when closing.

In my event viewer I can read the following on the event:

Faulting application devenv.exe, version 9.0.21022.8, time stamp 0x47317b3d, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791a7a6, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x000b015d, process id 0xfe4, application start time 0x01c8eca91f7960cb.

What to do, what to do....

Do you have the .Net Framework 3.5 installed? I have seen in the past that
it is required.

Hi David. Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I do have .NET 3.5 installed.

Hello David,

ReSharper 4 doesn't require .NET Framework 3.5, should work on pure .NET
2.0 with all relevant service packs.

Hello Jacob,

Could you possibly send us crash dump? You can attach WinDbg and when it
fails copy log and create minidump. Thanks.

Hi. Yes I will do that when I get home this evening.

I should say I also have Microsoft C# Source Analysis (aka StyleCop) installed and apparently, from what I have heard, it can mess up other VS plug ins. I will try to uninstall StyleCop to see if it messes with Resharper in some way.

At the moment I simply click the Cancel button when VS crashes (as it does every time I shut it down), since I can't live without ReSharper. So that's a sure purchase when the demo expires. Good work guys.

Any solution to this issue?

I have the exact same problem!

Jon H

Update: Just installed the new 4.1 version and still have the problem with crash on exit. Both 2005 and 2008 version has this behavior. If I uninstall ReSharper everything is fine...

Hello Mikael,

Could you please elaborate more information on this problem? Have you noticed
any certain actions or conditions which can lead to a crash? Do you see any
error messages under Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer
after Visual Studio crashes? Do you get any ReSharper exceptions in Visual
Studio before it crashes? Thank you!

Sorry about the previous post, my problem had nothing to do with Resharper but was caused by http://gitscc.codeplex.com/releases/view/46589. It has been fixed now.
