Memory Leak?

Has anyone else had issues with R# 4 drastically slowing down the longer you use it? Typing becomes lethargic and waiting for intellisense takes forever. Restarting VS seems to help for awhile, but the symptoms eventually return.

I've noticed this when working with 767 installed with VS 2008. seems to happen when working on aspx files. simply traversing through an aspx file will cause the memory on the VS footprint to climb. typing becomes lethargic, to a point of making resharper unusable.

I too have the suspicion that VS2008/R#4 is gradually grinding to a halt.

I haven't tried a big purge of caches, etc, yet, though, but I do have a feeling that perf has got worse since the EAP started.

R

  1. has always been a memory killer, and unfortunately since R# 4.0 it is getting worse and worse. Nevertheless, check out this post. From there, you can download a wrapper that you should use to start Visual Studio 2008. It does help a little bit, but I still need to restart Visual Studio every 4-5 hours.

I've the same feeling...
before 767 everything was fine, but now everytime I open a new code file it takes forever to do everything... also started to have issues with the OutOfMemoryException bug... now on 775, a bit better, no more OutOfMemoryException, but still slooooow

I'm on build 794.60 and have exactly the same problem. I just got to the point where VS 2008 was taking up 1.8gb of memory. This only seems to happen when editing html and css. I don't get any problems at all in C#. I had hoped that turning off code analysis whilst editing html might help, but sadly it doesn't.

After killing off VS and starting again (although I closed it, the process was still running for some reason?), it's back down to normal levels.

This really needs to get fixed. I can't be restarting VS all the time and equally, I don't want to stop using R#!

Are you guys who are having HTML editor problems using this set of hotfixes:

http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2008/02/08/vs-2008-web-development-hot-fix-roll-up-available.aspx

I don't know if they affect this, as I haven't been doing HTML in VS recently, but if I did, I would probably install them.

I installed these today actually. I thought I already had back in February, but it seems not!

I haven't been doing much HTML today, though, so will have to keep an eye on things and see how it goes.
