R# Settings overwritten
Hi,
I'm using both VS2003 (with R# 2.0.266) and VS2005 (with R# 2.5.324) at
the same time, and constantly it asks me to overwrite its previous
settings. Whenever I either say yes or no, in some version (either
VS2003 or VS2005) the settings get lost (=overwritten), and I have to
reset the default Visual Studio intellisense to R#.
Is it possible for the two versions to use different settings files?
Best Regards,
Wiebe Tijsma

Hello Wiebe,
no, unfortunately both 2003 and 2005 versions share the same UserSettings.xml
file - it was a deliberate decision.
since most settings should be shared. But there are some settings that depend
on the VS version, and the setting
you mentioned is one of them.

So, uh...
Any developer having purchased your product, using both 2.0 and 2.5... is basically screwed into performing the task of setting a) Highlighting of current line, b) R# intellisense and c) colour identifiers each time they change between versions of VS?

Dmitry's 'unfortunately' part seems to imply that :(
Hi Dimitry,
i use R# 2.0.3 only. I loose the settings when i open multiple instances of Visual Studio 2003. I'm not sure, but for me it seems
that R# also loose this settings also when i install another add-in or user-control library. I had this effect after installing
AnkhSvn and Syncfusion Essential Studio.

Hello Luedi,
could you please elaborate on what particular settings did you lose? Thanks.

Hi Dimitry,
Following settings are always lost:
Editor/Highlight current line is unticked
Intellisense is switched back to Visual Studio
Highlighting/Color identifiers is unticked
These settings are also lost if i first open Visual Studio 2005 and then Visual Studio 2003 and vice versa.

Klaus
Yes, same problems here.

Same problem here.
R# is a great and very useful tool but these problems are really annoying and should be solved somehow. :)
(bump)
Have JetBrains lost interest in supporting customers using VS2003? There are many many of us out here who have to maintain solutions in VS2003, while also having VS2005 installed.
Clearly the decision to use the same file was idiotic in hindsight. Equally silly was the decision to put in place a prompt every single time I close my IDE down. I start two VS2003 instances and do nothing but close them - yet the second instance asks me if I want to overwrite settings. That is awful.
Why not push out a maintenance release of the 2.0.x version that migrates the settings file to a different name? And at the same time, get rid of the damn prompt. If you have a conflict situation in updating the file, just fallback to the same behaviour as VS - the last instance closed down overwrites the settings.
The very small price to pay of configuring your Resharper settings individually "once" for VS2003 and again for VS2005 is much better than the freaking annoying problem we have now of our settings being screwed up every time we jump between IDEs.
Please JetBrains, sort this out and dont forget your VS2003 customers. We arent asking for new features, just allow us to get our jobs done with what we have installed.
Hello,
Cannot say anything regarding the changes you propose to the R#-2.0-for-VS-7.1
(I'm simply not aware of the 2003 business), but I can promise that the forthcoming
3.0 release will have a separate folder for storing its settings.
Also, we'll take caution not to stumble on the same problem with 8.0 — 9.0
Visual Studio versions against R# 3.0.
