RS4 configuration settings.

Is it just me or do other users suffer a loss of RS' settings? The reason I mention this is that I've been working happily with RS4 for a while now but last week it (or something) decided it would be a good idea to change many of the settings I had meticulously set up for my personal use. Some examples:

1. I had some code cleanup profiles that have been deleted.

2. I set my cache option to use the TEMP folder rather than in the solution. For some reason, it's been reset to the solution folder.

3. I set my environment so that selecting a curly brace would display an outline around the code rather highlighting the braces only. This has been changed.

4. Strangest of all is that I've disabled my participation in the RS feedback, so why does it still prompt me to do feedback every few days or so. Surely, no means no!

And I'm discovering lots of other annoying loss of settings. I know I've not changed them but something has and I'm at a loss to explain why. From where I sit, it takes a deliberate effort to change these settings and it's almost as if RS is seeing defaults in some cases and my settings in others. I can't think of anything else on my machine that would access the RS configuration files. Is there anything internal in RS that decides that resetting some of the options is beeter than preserving what I've configured? Admittedly, this does not happen too often but when it does happen it is too often!

Any comments as to what might be going on?

What had happened before your settings were lost? Did you installed new R#
build, or something else?

Eugene,

I'm still running the same version I downloaded when RS4 was officially released and I've not downloaded any fixes. Nothing else on my machine has changed and nothing else has been installed. It's almost as if something decided to reset my settings and I know I've not done anything to them in a long time. I've got in the habit of making copies of my settings as a backup. The one thing that is regularly out of sorts is that I'm prompted approximately every week to take part in the anonymouse feedback even though I've disabled that in the settings. As I say, something is very odd.

Hello,

As far as I know, there's no such functionality as to reset the user settings.

The only thing I can think of is that the process of writing the settings
down was somehow aborted, eg Visual Studio crashed or system powered off
while the settings were being written to the disk.

As for me, I've never experienced the loss of R# settings. However, I have
a backup of code formatting settings and highlighting colors, but I only
use it to set up R# on new computers.

Hi,

thats what I want to do, too. Can you tell me which files to backup in order to transfer settings from one PC to another? Thank you very much.

P.S. I have resharper 4.1 / VS2008

SteffenS,

Here's my settings path: C:\Documents and Settings\pxhami\Application Data\JetBrains\ReSharper

Look for something similar on your machine. I'm not sure but using Vista they might be in a different place???
