"The CrossAppDomainPointer is NULL" or "Error stuffing with an RT_GROUP_ICON resource named #101. Access is denied" error

Possible solutions:

  1. Check access rights for "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys" directory and all files and sub-folders inside it. Your Windows account (and sometimes "Users" account if exists) should have Full access to them;
  2. Try running the installer as administrator;
  3. Disable any antivirus/firewall software which may lock any files ReSharper creates during installation process;
  4. If you use web installer, download a full one;
  5. Try to reboot the computer.

I ran into this issue and was able to solve it by running the installer in Administrator Mode with Visual Studio shut down.

I solved this issue by booting in safe mode. The ReSharper Support was not helpful at all.

Run as administrator worked for me, even though my account's already admin-level. Running Windows 10 Home.

I got the error when trying to install the JetBrains.ReSharperUltimate.2016.3.2 version. The solution was only to run the .exe as an administrator. I did the process again and it when smooth :)

Hello David,

Could you try to install ReSharper in Safe Boot Mode?

Thanks!

Suggestion #1 was my issue. Thanks for the tip.

Got the CrossAppDomainPointer is NULL error message on Win10.  I tried the original suggestions with no luck.  I disabled antivirus and was able to install.

Worked for me thanks :)

Running full installer as administrator did not work for me. The only way I was able to install: 1). Getting ownership on this folder 2). Granting full permission to everyone 3). Making folder and files in it "not-readonly"

I'm running Win 10 Home

I had the same problem in Windows 10. However, once I run the installation in the context of administrator I was able to complete successfully. right click on the exe for the install and click on run as administrator

I've got the same problem with the "Error stuffing..." and I've changed security settings on the folder indicated above and Run as Administrator. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled with no success. Is there some other way to get this install to work? What part of the program fails with this installer issue?

On Win 10, after changing some Resharper settings, and restarting VS 2015, Resharper disappeared from Visual Studio!!!! After checking VS extensions, Resharper was not installed! Tried to reinstall and got the CrossAppDomainPointer is null error. Tried setting permissions on crypto\RSA\MachineKeys to full access and did web installer as administrator. Nothing works. PLEASE FIX ASAP.

Using the full installer (not the web installer) successfully reinstalled Resharper.

Running as administrator worked like a charm - thanks for that

Same problem as others, can not install dotMemory on Windows 7 ultimate due to CrossAppDomainPointer is NULL error message. Running installer as admin, antivirus turned off, firewall turned off, permissions to MachineKeys applied, using the full installer.

Very frustrating, I'd really like to try this tool but if I can't even install it there is no way I'll be able to do so.

Excitement about starting to use resharper quickly turns to complete frustration when faced with an issue where you can even install it.

I'm running windows 8.1 and installing ReSharperUltimate.2016.2.2.

To get the install to work I had to disable VIPRE Business Agent via "Services".

If you have the ability to disable your a.v. try that. #1 and #2 fixes listed for possible solutions worked for me.

Checking the suggested access rights worked for me.

R# Ultimate 2016.3.1, Win 10 Pro (Insider Preview), VS 2015 Ultimate: had the "The CrossAppDomainPointer is NULL" (for each installing product) issue, solved with Administrative rights. Guys, why not to check a possibility of this problem before installation process and force to escalate privileges? I was pretty sure that something is wrong w/ my system when I tried to update R# under VS and lost even installed one.

Hello!

Could you please specify what BitDefender version you use? I ask because we've already contacted Bitdefender team on this issue last week.

Thank you!

I ran into this on Windows 10, but not Windows 8.1. It installed fine on 8.1, but I did have to change the permissions for 10. (I should have read Chris' comment first)

I downloaded and install windows 10 pro creator update, as I think pro version is better that home version. I recently upgrade my windows 10 home operating system to windows 10 Professional being getting a license from ODosta Store
Now Windows 10 pro has all features, Which I was looking for many times.
I searched and found your post with boost of information, Which is very helpful for me. Thanks you very much for your team.

Is there another way to fix this? I work at a Fortune 100 company who has put group policies to not allow to change the permissions on this folder. The installer for v8.2 never gave me a problem. If this can't be fixed, I won't be able to install the latest version.

Bitdefender sees EAP as a virus so it blocks the installation and updates. Disabling the AV fixes the problem for me but devs should probably submit file to AV vendors if you haven't already.

Had the "The CrossAppDomainPointer is NULL" issue installing R# 2016.3 on Windows 10 Pro into VS 2015 Ultimate.

Running the installer as Administrator worked fine and resolved the issue.

Now just need to resolve the 'Not licenced' issue :(

I am attempting to install ReSharper Ultimate in Windows 10 and am getting the CrossAppDomainPointer is NULL error message. I have checked the access rights to the above location, have run the installer as administrator and have also attempted both the web and full installers but continue to get the same error message. Any advice?

I can not install ReSharper on Windows 7 Enterprise due to CrossAppDomainPointer is NULL error message. Running full installer as admin did not work for me. Can't disable firewall / change access rights due to company policies. More details in Ticket Request #609768
